Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) for deaf newcomers

Dutch + Flemish Sign Language

What does the course entail?

In the open modules 'Dutch for deaf newcomers' (a, b and c) you will learn how to fill out forms in Dutch, check train times, understand the information from your children's nursery or school, make or cancel appointments, etc. in Flemish Sign Language. In the process, you will learn to communicate better in Dutch, including with Flemish people who do not know sign language.

Together with your classmates, you will choose the topics you need to feel more confident as a deaf person in Flanders. By doing so, you will learn to read and write Dutch at your own pace.

For whom?

It is important that you already have a good basis in VGT (Flemish Sign Language).

You can start in our VGT course in September, it takes one school year to complete. In class, you will meet other deaf newcomers, but you will also learn to communicate with Flemish deaf people. Besides a good basic Flemish sign language, you will learn about places to practice VGT and build your network.

Do you already know VGT? Please contact nederlands.mechelen@crescendo-cvo.be. We will organise a start-up meeting. If this meeting goes well, you can join the course.
